Appalachians Abroad Teach in China

This is a terrific opportunity for an upcoming college graduates to teach English for a year in Shanghai and to be PAID.
The program is led through Marshall University in West Virginia and the Program Director is Ms. Qing Qing Zhao. Several recent graduates from SW Virginia colleges are participating in the program. Application deadline is March 31st.

Scholarships-Global Learning Semesters Fall 2010 & Spring 2011

Announcing 200 Merit-Based Scholar Awards for Fall 2010 and Spring 2011.
Global Learning Semesters (GLS), an Independent study abroad provider, is expanding their Honored Scholar Award program to accept 100 students in Fall 2010 and 100 students in Spring 2011!
Each award is $1,500 and is in addition to any other GLS awards or discounts a student may have earned.
The awards are 100% merit-based as per the request of the funding source and apply to students with a GPA of 3.5 or higher who meet all other admission requirements.
The awards will be distributed on a rolling basis as a discount on program fees to admitted students who request consideration, until the spots are filled.
GLS strongly recommend that students apply for this program before April 15th for Fall 2010 programs and before July 15th for Spring 2011 programs.

The VCU Education Abroad Office will assist you with registering, maintaining VCU status while you’re away and securing financial aid. In order to receive academic credit, pre-approval of courses must be secured before studying abroad. For all non-VCU programs, you must request that the host institution send an official transcript to the Education Abroad office. See our website for details about Non-VCU Programs.

Spanish Language in Guatemala AND Ecosystems, Cultures & Languages in Puerto Rico: Info Session

If you think you might be interested in participating in the Spanish Language Program in Guatemala study abroad program from May 29 -June 26, 2010 or the Ecosystems, Cultures & Languages in Puerto Rico program from July 26- August 9, 2010, we invite you to attend an information session on Wednesday, March 24 at 1 pm . The session will held in the Education Abroad Office located in the Franklin Street Gym Room 122.
Robert Fisher, PhD., the program director for Director for Ecosystems, Culture and Language in Puerto Rico, will explain the nature, purpose and itinerary of the tour and take any questions you may have.
Rosita Cruz., the program director for Spanish Language in Guatemala and one of the Directors for Ecosystems,Culture and Language in Puerto Rico, will explain the nature, purpose and itinerary of the tour and take any questions you may have.

French Language and Culture Information Session

If you think you might be interested in participating in the French Language and Culture study abroad program from June 29 – August 1, 2010, we invite you to attend an information session on Friday, March 26, 2010 from 12pm until 1pm and/or on Friday, April 2 from 11am-12pm at the Education Abroad Office in the Franklin Street Gym Room, 122.

Gilman International Scholarships for Fall 2010 and Full Year 2010/2011

The Gilman International Scholarship Program is pleased to announce the opening of the Fall 2010 online application with over 1,700 scholarships to be awarded. A limited number of summer awards will be available to students majoring in the STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) who meet the program’s standard eligibility criteria listed below.
-Enrolled as an undergraduate student at a two or four-year U.S. Institution
-United States citizen
-Receiving a Federal Pell Grant at the time of application or during the term of study abroad
-Participating in a study abroad program that is no less than 4 weeks and no more than an academic year
-Receiving academic credit
-Study in any country not currently under a U.S. State Department Travel Warning or Cuba
Summer 2010, Fall 2010, and Academic Year 2010-2011 applications are now being accepted online and are due April 6, 2010. Before submitting the online application, students should submit their essay to an advisor in the Education Abroad Office for review.
