Readability in Medical Journals

This week in the Lancet we read about a study that confirms the “non-inferiority” of linagliptin versus glimepiride in reducing HbA1c concentration, with a positive effect on weight change and a lower incidence of hypoglycaemia.  Comment: there is little merit in using the passive voice in medical Journal articles, it does not improve readability and when combined with the bureaucratease using the term “noninferiority” instead of equivalent the headlines become laughable.$this->errorMessages$this->errorMessages
