CFP: 2012-2013 CTE Small Grants Program

The VCU Center for Teaching Excellence is pleased to announce the 2012-2013 Call for Proposals for the CTE Small Grants Program. The CTE Small Grants Program is designed to supply VCU faculty members (full- or part-time) with necessary resources (up to $5000) to support their own development as learning-centered teachers in alignment with the VCU strategic plan, Quest for Distinction. During the 2011-2012 award cycle, the CTE received 40 proposals from VCU faculty and staff members. Eight of these proposals were recommended by an interdisciplinary review committee to receive funding based on specific award criteria: budget, project objectives, project significance, proposed teaching activity (including general aspects, potential for growth into other areas, and learning-centeredness), assessment plan, and impact. Each submitted proposal is reviewed by three members of the review committee and subjected to substantive discussion by the entire committee in light of (1) the merits of the proposal, (2) the merits of the other received submissions, and (3) the total amount of funding available for the CTE Small Grants Program. Among the eight funded proposals, 50% of these applicants scheduled individual consultations to talk through their project ideas and to get feedback on their proposals prior to submission. For more information about the CTE Small Grants Program, including a link to the online proposal submission system (via REDCap), please visit Questions and consultation requests related to proposal writing and the review process can be directed to Phil Edwards / We are also offering two upcoming information sessions for prospective applicants to ask questions about the CTE Small Grants Program and the application process, discuss the alignment of their proposal ideas with the review criteria, and learn strategies for writing effective teaching- and learning-related proposals; to attend one of these information sessions, please register in advance via
