As an intern at HH&J you will:

• Learn how to use accounting and/or tax preparation software;
• Receive direct hands on training from our experienced staff;
• Assist in the preparation of tax returns;
• Experience what it’s like to work in a fun and professional work environment;
• Explore the variety and potential career opportunities with a community firm.
Throughout your internship with us, you will be mentored and coached by team members in varying roles to help assist in your development. You will gain varying work experiences and we will provide you with regular and direct feedback on your job performance.

Candidate qualifications:

Education:
• Enrolled in a Bachelors or Masters program in Accounting or other relevant field required;
• Must have a 3.25 GPA or better and be in their junior or senior year of college;
• Actively pursuing school credits to become a CPA.
Experience
• Must be service minded and be able to handle multiple projects at one time;
• Will have previous leadership experience within an organization, school, or work setting;
• Will preferably have some experience working in some form of a customer service role.
Software
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word and Excel.
Other Preferred Knowledge, Skills Abilities:
• Strong written and verbal communication skills;
• Ability to follow instructions as directed;
• Ability to work effectively in a team setting;
• Positive attitude and willingness to learn;
• Seeks advice of appropriate superiors regarding issues related to compliance;
• Ability to prepare simple tax returns;
• Must be flexible and able to work a minimum of 20 hours a week from approximately February through April 15 depending on the work available.

Outline of Responsibilities

Daily/Weekly Responsibilities

Input payables in AP system and GL system

Maintain investor records, transactions and notices

Cash management

Vendor management – obtaining W-9s and assisting with yearend 1099 reporting

Monthly Responsibilities

Responsible for balance sheet reconciliation (cash, AP, AR, etc.)

Prepare ad hoc reports to investors for review by Controller

Quarterly Responsibilities

Assist with preparation of journal entries for property level quarterly reporting

Prepare calculations and accounting journal entries related to management fees and distributions

Ensure fund expenses are accrued timely and in accordance with GAAP

Assist with preparation of trial balance for fund level accounting

Additional responsibilities

Work directly with Controller, Office Administrator and Investor Relations

Involved with investor relations and various communications with investors

Assist with year-end audit and tax preparation

Perform other duties as assigned in a positive and helpful manner

Regular attendance at the job is essential

Minimum Qualifications So, what does it take to be a successful Tax Examiner?

• General knowledge of Virginia and Federal tax laws, rules, regulations, forms, schedules, and filing procedures.
• General knowledge of accounting principles and practices, as well as audit terminology and techniques.
• Skilled in operating a personal computer with knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications in a Windows environment.
• Ability to prioritize duties and handle multiple tasks within limited time constraints while maintaining customer focus.
• Skilled in organizing various work assignments.
• Ability to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) in order to create reports, letters and other documents using correct punctuation, spelling and grammar in a concise and clear style.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment to complete assigned tasks.
• Ability to maintain composure in all situations, and communicate amicably with co-workers and the public.

Preferred Qualifications • An associate or bachelor’s degree in business or related field.
• Minimum of 6 semester hours in accounting or equivalent work experience.
• Experience with one or more major tax types administered by the Commonwealth with a concentration in individual income tax.
• Some experience with database applications and knowledge of tax compliance programs and processes.
• Fluency in Spanish is a plus.

Job Description: TDBBS is looking for a highly motivated Analyst seeking a challenging opportunity to join its Finance team. The person in this role will serve primarily as an Analyst; whose responsibilities will include costing Finished Goods inventory, identifying & addressing inventory discrepancies, SKU setup & maintenance, and Bill of Material maintenance. In addition, this person will also assist the Business Process Manager with Reporting & Analytics, Process Optimization, Systems Management, and various daily tasks.

Note: As TDBBS is set to begin implementation of a new ERP system, the person in this role will likely be assigned to the Project Team to assist with data-mining, process-mapping, and workflow configuration.

The successful candidate must be an improvement-oriented self-starter with strong analytical & organizational skills, and capable of working in a fast-paced environment. While challenging, this role provides an opportunity to make a measurable impact in a rapidly growing company.

Primary Responsibilities:

Inventory Management

  • Indirect Materials — Perform cycle counts; Maintain accuracy of Offsite Inventory; Incorporate indirect materials into Bill of Materials; Utilize company forecasts to propose purchase orders
  • Direct Materials — Sample Received Products & Track Costs; Perform Monthly WIP Cycle Counts; Lead ABC Cycle Counts; Validate Costing
  • Work with Operations team to validate processes & controls
  • Resolve Inventory discrepancies as they occur
  • Identify shortcomings of current processes and propose/implement solutions
  • (Eventually) Prepare various Inventory Reports for use in financials (Work with External Auditors)
  • (Eventually) Manage Costing for all current SKUs — Utilize inventory receipt, vendor pricing, and product sampling information to determine Standard Costs
  • (Eventually) Control/Validate Costing for new SKUs — Validate costs on all new product launches

  • Support Sales Teams with all costing, product specification, and inventory information
