What’s Happening Today – May 29, 2012

MX (mail exchange) records have been changed in VCU’s DNS to allow for mail routing through Google Message Security.  This will provide users with an extra level of spam/virus protection.

Finalizing the workflow for the migration process.  The first production migrations will take place this week.

What’s Happening Today – May 25, 2012

MX (mail exchange) record changes have been submitted to VCU Network Services to change mail routing to the Google Message Security domain.

Fine tuning the account and migration work flow to be used in the weeks ahead.

Reviewing spam and anti-virus settings in the Google Message Security domain.

Reviewing mail routing settings in the Google Apps domain.

What’s Happening Today – May 24, 2012

Cpanel training was held for Colloboration Services staff as well as for Training committee members.

Finalized Google Directory Sync for Google Message Security and successfully created users.

SSO for IMAP has been enabled for the Google Apps domain.

What’s Happening Today – May 23, 2012

Created special accounts to be used for training users and our “Train the Trainers” program.

Met with the Email Steering Committee to discuss our progress thus far.

Created a workflow document describing how accounts will be created, users notified, and migrated.

Continued to work on directory sync both for Google Apps and Google Message Security.

What’s Happening Today – May 22, 2012

A group of users was successfully added to apps.vcu.edu using Google Directory Sync.

Working to fine tune the sync between the Google Apps domain and Google Message Discovery.

Finished creating the groups in the Domino Address book which will be used to stage the user account creates and migrations.

What’s Happening Today – May 16, 2012

The Training Committee met with SADA and discussed the “Gone Google” site which is 98% complete.  It has a lot of great online materials for learning Google Apps.  Talked about the Train the Trainer sessions scheduled for the end of May and Sneak Peeks being scheduled for June.  Discussed how important it is for users to check out the “Prepare Yourself” link on this project site and how to get out the message to have faculty and staff clean up their Lotus Notes email and calendar.
