What’s Happening Today – July 30, 2012

Shiny new Google Apps accounts have been created for the School of Pharmacy faculty and staff.  Migration of data will begin on August 1.

Work is nearing completion for conversion of Lotus Notes group data for the School of Pharmacy as is the room reservation data.

What’s Happening Today – July 27, 2012

The migration of the School Nursing is almost complete. Only three users remain in the migration queue.

Administrative Assistants get ready!  You’re going to love what the trainers have in store for you at the training session!

School of Pharmacy archives are proceeding as is the preparation of Pharmacy groups to be migrated to Google.

We’re also working on a modification to our upload of the shared contacts to be sure we include everyone – as Google has a 50,000 limit on the number of shared contacts.

What’s Happening Today – July 26, 2012

The Gone Google engine has migrated 94 of the 134 School of Nursing faculty/staff so far! 

What makes a migration take less time?  Fewer folders and less mail!  So take a look at your mail file and delete those items you no longer need.

We’re continuing to prep for the School of Pharmacy migration!  All ahead full!

What’s Happening Today – July 25, 2012

The School of Nursing Goes Google!  All new mail for Nursing faculty/staff is now routing to Google Apps and the migration of Lotus Notes data to Google has started.

We’re planning ahead – the School of Pharmacy and the VCU Libraries are our next two groups for migration. 

The training committee has reviewed your feedback and is working on developing some new courses for our Gone Google faculty/staff.  Visit the Gone Google site for training updates.

What’s New in Google – July 26, 2012

Scheduled Release track features update

- Documents: Users will have the ability to edit documents and leave comments offline. You must be running the latest version of Chrome or ChromeOS and install the Google Drive Chrome app to edit offline.
- Drive: Google Drive automatically deletes versions of files when they’re older than 30 days or there are more than 100 previous versions of the same file. A new feature allows Drive users to specify that certain revisions should be kept forever.

The following features are intended for release to these domains on July 31st:
- Documents: Users will have the ability to create documents offline. You must be running the latest version of Chrome or ChromeOS and install the Google Drive Chrome app to use this feature.

What’s Happening Today – July 24, 2012

We’ve checked our list and all items are a go for tomorrow’s migration of the School of Nursing. 

Next up will be the School of Pharmacy.  Their faculty/staff will receive Google accounts on July 30th, with the migration to begin on August 1st.

Rooms/Resources have been added to the Google domain for the School of Pharmacy – to mirror their current room/resource usage in the Lotus Notes Room Reservation database.

We’re reviewing the groups in the School of Pharmacy address book and will convert them to internet format for migration to Google Groups.

Work continues on our account create process – our target date is August 1st to have everything in place for new employees (not affiliates) to receive Google accounts rather than Lotus Notes accounts.

What’s Happening Today – July 23, 2012

In preparation for the migratino of the School of Nursing on July 25th, 47 new Google Groups have been created.

Google Apps accounts have been created for School of Nursing faculty and staff.

What’s Happening Today – July 20, 2012

Work is underway to archive data for the School of Nursing faculty/staff who will migrate to Google on July 25th.

School of Nursing Lotus Notes groups are being updated to include internet addresses in order to prepare them for migration to Google Groups.

What’s Happening Today – July 19, 2012

An updated PDF version of the Getting Started: A Guide for Faculty and Staff is now available for download.

The migration of Campus Services (formerly known as Business Services) has completed.

We are preparing Domino groups for migration to Google Groups for the School of Nursing, as well as archiving user data.

What’s Happening Today – July 18, 2012

Migration has started for Business Services staff.  As of 5 PM on 7/18/2012 – only 5 accounts of the initial group are still pending completion.

Google+ has been added to the VCU Google Apps domain.  One caveat – be sure to enter your birthdate information, when creating your Google+ account.  Google must verify that you are at least 13 years or older in order to create the account.  If you do not enter the information correctly, your Google account will be locked.

Working with School of Dentistry staff to address those follow-up questions that have been sent into Doctor Gee.  Don’t hesitate to ask us a question!  It helps us to understand how you work and what we can do to provide you with better service.
