UK Fulbright Commission Summer Institutes, 2011

Fulbright UK Summer Undergraduate Institutes: Applications Open!
We would be grateful if you could let your students and other relevant contacts know about the following all-expense-paid Fulbright UK undergraduate programmes.
The US-UK Fulbright Commission is pleased to announce the opening of its competition for the 2011 UK Summer Institutes. Participants in these programmes will get theopportunity to experience an exciting academic programme at a highly regarded UK University, explore the culture, heritage and history of the UK and develop their academic ability by improving presentation, research and communication skills.
There are three Summer Programmes available for US students in 2011:
Fulbright Commission Newcastle University Summer Institute Fulbright Commission Roehampton University London Summer Institute Fulbright Commission Wales Summer Institute
The Summer Institute will cover the majority of the participant costs. This includes round-trip airfare from the US to the UK, tuition and fees at the University, accommodation and social programme, subsistence (e.g. food and drink) and visa processing.
Minimum eligibility for this programme; applicants need to:
be a US citizen and possess a US passport;
be at least 18 years old;
have a high level of academic achievement with a minimum GPA of 3.5 (confirmed by academic marks, awards and references);
have completed no more than two years of university study; i.e. applicants should currently be an undergraduate Freshman or Sophomore in college/university;
be mature, responsible, independent, and open-minded;
be willing and able to fully participate in an academically intensive programme that includes attending all sessions, completing all assignments, contributing to classroom discussions and supporting student ambassador style work as required;
have had little or no study or travel experience in the UK or elsewhere outside of the US;
be able to participate in the programme in its entirety, and;
expect to return to the US and continue their undergraduate education.
Note: The programme is open to students in all courses of study.

Applications are now being accepted for all 2011-2012 scholarships at the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs.
A completed application is required to apply for a Wilder School scholarship. Applications are due on March 1, 2011.

Leadership Opportunity with ICF

The Intercultural Festival at VCU is now accepting applications for the 2011-2012 Executive Board! The Festival is one of the largest student-run events on campus and grows each year. Becoming a member of the Executive Board requires no previous experience, and it’s a fantastic way to get involved on campus, acquire real leadership experience, work with many and various people, and of course boost your resume. There are six different Committee Chair or Co-Chair positions so you are bound to find one that suits your interests. Honors College newsletter Interest Meeting

Newsletter Interest Meeting 
Interested in writing, taking pictures, drawing cartoons, or even editing?  Come join the Honors College Newsletter staff and contribute ideas and pieces for the newsletter.  We will be meeting on Friday, 2/18 in the Honors Lounge from 12-1 for all students interested.  Leadership positions need to be filled.  Please contact Tolu, omojokunto@vcu.edu, with any questions, or if you would like to be involved but cannot attend this meeting.

Call for abstracts – 2011 Colonial Academic Alliance Undergraduate Research Conference

The Honors College is accepting abstracts from students in all disciplines to showcase research projects/papers, including research in progress. With respect to the conference agenda, Friday evening, April 8th, will begin with an opening reception and entertainment. Saturday will be dedicated to presentations and poster sessions, and will include the symposium banquet, as well as additional entertainment options. Final presentations and poster sessions will be scheduled for Sunday morning. The abstract deadline is February 28, 2011 and students will be notified of their invitation to participate in the conference by March 4, 2011.
