VMFA Art on the Spot Statewide Educator
Highly motivated educator to conduct lessons for the VMFA’s statewide Art on the Spot in-school program for grades K-5. Educator will be responsible for learning and presenting lessons based on Standards of Learning for Virginia Public Schools. Educator also will be responsible for scheduling school visits, coordinating classroom presentations, and maintaining teaching kits. This position requires travel within the state of Virginia, including occasional overnights.
Qualifications: Undergraduate degree from college or university in art education or education. Excellent teaching skills with at least two years of teaching experience in an elementary classroom setting required. Working knowledge of museum education programs and art history desired. Applicants must be organized, enthusiastic, and flexible and be able to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals. Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to drive approximately 250 miles/week using personal vehicle. Mileage will be reimbursed according to Commonwealth of Virginia regulations and policies. Some heavy lifting required. A security background check is required.
This position is for an 11-month period, from August 2010 through June 2011. Pay rate is $14.04/hour (including travel time). This is an hourly position and does not include benefits. Average 25-hour work week will fluctuate depending upon teaching schedule. Educator will be based in the Central Virginia area, preferably in or around Lynchburg of the state. Applicants must be available in August for 2-4 days of training at the VMFA in Richmond.
