Planned Parenthood Community Outreach Program
Volunteer Position Title: Community Outreach Manager
Function of Organization:
The Virginia League for Planned Parenthood provides professional, affordable reproductive health care and sexual health information in many cities and counties in central Virginia, including Richmond, Chesterfield, Henrico, and Hanover. Our mission is to ensure that individuals and families have the freedom, information and ability to make their own informed reproductive choices.
Description of position:
In addition to the role as a Community Outreach Volunteer, the Manager will be a leader at Community Outreach events. The manager will be responsible for designing the Community Outreach schedule and recruiting volunteers to table at the events. The Manager arrives at the beginning of an event and stays until the end. He/she is responsible for set-up and clean-up at the event, as well as pick-up and drop-off of table and materials before and after the event. The Manager should help other volunteers petition more effectively by offering pointers and setting a good example. The Manager will be responsible for inputting data from the events and getting it to the Grassroots Organizer within one week of each event.
Specific Duties:
· Attend Community Outreach trainings, with the goal of eventually leading the trainings
· Schedule Community Outreach events with the help of the Grassroots Organizer
· Recruiting volunteers to run the events
· Make arrangements to pick-up materials from Grassroots Organizer in advance of event
· Return table and materials in timely fashion after event
· Help volunteers table and crowd canvass effectively
· Encourage volunteers and make the event fun for them
· Make sure a volunteer is at the table at all times
· Keep track of donations and return them to Grassroots Organizer at conclusion of the event
· Make decisions about how to use volunteers to work the event
· Enter all data from the event and return to Grassroots Organizer within one week
· Set measurable outcomes for petition gathering for volunteers
Qualifications:
· Experience as a Community Outreach Volunteer
· Knowledge of the Virginia League for Planned Parenthood and our issues
· Must be available on weekends (Saturdays, Sundays, and some Friday evenings)
· Effective use of petition for measurable outcomes
· Must be comfortable training and managing volunteers
· Start date: mid-April
· Hours: approximately 10/week but these are due to change depending on activities scheduled

Job Summary:
This position is primarily responsible for processing and documentation required to initiate child sponsorships in the areas of new, substitute, gift, pending and transfer sponsorships with the main focus being substitute sponsorships.
Secondary responsibilities will include the duties of a primary customer relations phone operator.
Functions:
I. Prepare in a timely fashion and with a high degree of accuracy all necessary tasks in the areas of set up, processing, documentation and follow up necessary to complete new, substitute, gift, pending or transfer of sponsorships. This positions primary responsibility will be substitute sponsorships.
II. Participates as a primary customer relations phone operator, responding immediately to low level questions and inquiries and directing callers to appropriate personnel when requested or necessary to provide exceptional customer service.
III. Creates descriptive biographical histories for each child waiting for a sponsor. Coordinates the completion of specific histories based on the daily needs of the department.
Job Context:
The Sponsorship/Sub Associate typically works Monday through Friday 40 hours per week with additional hours as needed to complete assigned duties. The work environment is a climate-controlled office. There is some strain due to repetitive movement such as typing
and computer use.
Requirements upon hire:
* Strong written communication skills
* One to two years related experience
* Bachelors degree or equivalent
* Attention to detail
* Strong organizational skills
* Demonstrated ability to interact well with others
* Computer applications (word, outlook)
* References required at time of interview

Department: We Bring Program Date: Available June 1, 2009
Reports To: We Bring Program Manager
Purpose and Scope of Job:
The Volunteer Director recruits, trains and manages non-medical volunteers who meet the practical and supportive needs of the IHC children and guardians who travel to Richmond through IHC’s We Bring Program; such needs include, but are not limited to, picking families up at the airport, accompanying families to medical appointments, checking children in for surgery, visiting families in the hospital and housing facilities and planning recreational activities. The Volunteer Director also independently manages the student internship program.
Essential Functions (other duties may be assigned):
- Manage volunteers to meet the needs of We Bring families.
- Manage interns to meet the needs of IHC office and We Bring families.
- Recruit and train new volunteers and interns.
- Communicate with We Bring families to assess needs.
- Help meet practical and supportive needs of We Bring families when volunteers are not available, including, but not limited to, picking families up from the airport, accompanying families to medical appointments, interpreting when necessary, and visiting families at hospital and housing.
- Available after regular work hours to meet needs of We Bring program.
- Update IHC donors and Board of Directors on status of We Bring children.
- Capture and report Volunteer Program Indicators monthly.
- Plan and conduct annual Volunteer Appreciation Reception.
- Lead 3-5 surgical/diagnostic missions annually, involving: aggregating team’s needs, collecting patient data, conducting in-country meetings relevant to ongoing programs, and interpreting between patient-physician-team members.
Non-Essential Functions (performed on an infrequent basis):
- Participate with all staff in organization-wide special events
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Fluent in Spanish, both verbal and written
- International travel experience
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Must have car and valid driver’s license
Competencies:
- Exceptionally strong worker both independently and in group setting.
- Sensitive to cultural and socioeconomic differences.
- Professionalism in communication skills, both verbal and written, for interaction with network hospitals, volunteers and donors.
- Great attention to detail to follow multiple client needs and to provide clear instructions to volunteers.
- Ability to multi-task, problem solve and prioritize under pressure.
- Compassionate, energetic, enthusiastic.
- Willing to work beyond regular hours, when necessary, to meet program needs.
Interactions with Others (Internal and External):
- Internal: We Bring Program Manager, We Bring Program Assistant, IHC Executive Staff and Board of Directors.
- External: IHC donors, university partners, housing partners, volunteers (medical and non-medical), patients and guardians receiving program services.
Work Environment:
- Office setting, with frequent trips outside of office to hospitals, clinics, and housing facilities to interact with We Bring families
- 3-5 one-week surgical/diagnostic mission trips annually to Central America and Caribbean

- Must be able to drive

JOB SUMMARY: Research assistant will be responsible for the day-to-day activities required to complete the Breast Cancer, Health Insurance, and Work research project. Essential functions include:
1. Audit medical records to extract information about chemotherapy and radiation treatments;
2. Enter audit data into computer-assisted software stored on a secure network site;
3. Conduct telephone interviews;
4. Assist with quality assurance activities; and
5. Carry-out other research-related duties as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
• Skill in reviewing and extracting information from medical records.
• Experience working with database management programs.
• Knowledge of medical records and medical terminology.
• Skilled in organizational and time management.
• Experience using Microsoft Excel workbooks.
• Experience working both independently and collaboratively.
• Familiarity with cancer treatment protocols.
• Familiarity with survey research methods.
• Familiarity with Federal and State regulations related to human subjects research.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS: Bachelors’ degree in nursing, social science, public health or other relevant field. At least one year of experience collecting data from medical records review is desired. Clinical experience with cancer patients is a plus.
