We are wrapping up our interviewing process for summer interns but there are still a few days left to apply. 
The internships are part-time (15-20 hours/week) for the summer, beginning May 31, 2010, with the option for an extension. A stipend will be provided based on results. Interns can work remotely though DC-based intern preferred

  • Ability to quickly and concisely summarize data 
  • Good verbal and written communication skills 
  • Proven ability to work independently and take initiative 
  • Interest/experience in sustainability consulting

Public Relations Intern 
Responsibilities 
  • Help with newsletter, book events and client-facing materials

The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services,
Division of
Animal and Food Industry Services, Office of Veterinary Services is
seeking
a highly motivated individual to provide technical and
administrative expertise
in support of agricultural-based regulatory programs involving
livestock and
poultry. This position will process animal disease program records;
enter
statistical data into the federal database; maintain Virginia
statistics and
program records; independently prepare reports relating to federal
and state
animal disease programs in support of a nationwide statistical
reporting system;
process drug residue investigations and disease investigations as
provided
by the FDA, USDA, or others; provide administrative support to the
work unit
by answering telephones, greeting the public, and answering routine
inquiries;
and provide requested information regarding laws and related
regulations,
especially pertaining to the importation of animals into Virginia.

Qualifications: Candidates must demonstrate exceptional and
enthusiastic customer
service; be proficient in business communications, both oral and
written,
including experience providing detailed responses and explanations
of laws
and regulations to program clients; possess experience using and
maintaining
database systems including accurate data entry; exhibit strong
organizational
skills to include experience prioritizing workloads in order to meet
deadlines;
demonstrate strong analytical skills with a proven ability to review
and analyze
documentation; handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions;
possess
the ability to work independently without close supervision; and
have experience
providing general administrative/clerical support to a multi-staff
work team.
Applicants must be proficient in the use of personal computers.
Candidates
must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Final candidate must
successfully
complete a fingerprint-based criminal background check. Hiring
Salary: Pay
Band 3, commensurate with relevant experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Act as a substitute for the Customer Service Manager in a manner, which
