- The Frederick D. Patterson Research
institute (FPRI) is an emerging, leading authority in research on
African Americans in education. - The mission of the Institute is to
design, conduct, and disseminate applied research to improve the
educational opportunities and outcomes of African Americans.
Position
Summary
Summary
- The Frederick D. Patterson Research Institute is offering a
paid internship opportunity during the summer of 2010 at the UNCF
Headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia. - The internship is for advanced
undergraduate and graduate level students with an interest in studying
African Americans in the PK-16 pipeline. - The internship will begin in
July and will last 8-10 weeks.
Primary Responsibilities
- Conduct
various research assignments - Assist staff with special projects
and related research as necessary - Production of reports for
Institute staff
Education/ Training/ Experience
- Exposure and
or strong interests in the fields of Public Policy, Education, Sociology, African American Studies, or an associated field
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
- Strong
quantitative and qualitative research experience - Command of
Microsoft Programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and SPSS - Excellent
writing and oral skills - Show willingness to acquire new
knowledge - Ability to work as a member of a team
- Ability
to produce quality results in a timely fashion
Compensation
- This
internship offers a competitive stipend package and applicants must be
willing to commit to a 25-30 hour work week.
