Health Services Research Information Center

hsric_logo.png

This is a new site that has been created by the National
Library of Medicine in order to better serve the needs of those in the health
services research community.  It is a collection that cover areas like health data, funding announcements, reports, podcasts,
and discussion groups.  The site is not
intended to provide a comprehensive collection of resources on the web that
pertain to health services, but is just a sample.  Those items that have been included have been
selected based on their quality.   This site
is a an ongoing project and will change as more organizations become involved and sites are added.

For more information or to check out the site click here.

Nursing – Clinical Rotation Research Guide (NEW)

apple and book.jpgI know many
of you are in the midst of clinical rotations which means time spent on
pre-assessments on top of all of your other classwork. Understanding that this
may mean having to flip through several books and other resources, I have
created a clinical rotations
research guide
. The guide
provides online resources, including electronic books, covering the following
topics:

· Drug Information – Complete
monographs, as well as information concerning interactions.

· Background Information – The
resources on this topic will provide information on interventions and conditions
that a patient may have that you may need information on. This information
comes from credible sources and citations are provided.

· Consumer Health Information -
There are many resources provided that cover medical topics in language that
patients and their families can understand. The patient information sheets
that you can get are not just in English and Spanish, but are in many languages.

· Cultural Competence - There are
resources provided that helps you understand those of different cultures and
their views when it comes to medical care.

Nursing – Clinical Rotation Resource Guide :
http://guides.library.vcu.edu/nursing-rotation

This guide can also be accessed through the main
nursing research guide too. There is a link provided on the left in the useful
links box (
Link is
highlighted in Red
).

Nursing Research Guide : http://guides.library.vcu.edu/nursing

Please take a look at the guide and if you have
any suggestions on how it can be improved, please do not hesitate to let me
know. As I find more resources that I think may be useful the resource guide
may change.

November Monthly Entry

cornucopia.gif

Well November is here and while the semester is quickly approaching its end, there is plenty going on here at the library.   I know it is also a time that can be quite stressful as there is research to be done for papers on top of studying for tests.   Remember that myself and the other librarians here at TML are here to help.   Just remember that it is best to make an appointment to insure that myself or one of my colleagues has plenty of time to help.
Just a Reminder the Library is Closed November 24-26 for the Thanksgiving Holiday

“Whetting Your Appetite for Research” – Brown Bag Series

VCU Libraries and the Center for Clinical & Translational Research hold excellent talks on various topics that deal with researchLunch Bag.pngand pull on the expertise of researchers here at VCU.  They are excellent sessions that would be of real use to anyone who is interested in research and publishing.   You just need to bring yourself, something to eat (drinks are included) and bring an interested friend if you want.  Some of the upcoming workshops are:
