MAYOR’S YOUTH ACADEMY
EMPLOYMENT COUNSELOR

(Working Title – Recreation Aide)

Temporary Positions: April-August, 2010

$15.00 per hour

 

The
City of Richmond Office of the Deputy Chief
Administrative Officer for Human Services’ Mayor’s Youth Academy,
Summer Works Initiative is seeking
experienced, competent and caring persons for the position of
Employment Counselor.  The successful
applicants will
assist in
the day-to-day operations of the Summer Works Initiative, with youth between
the ages of 14-19
.  These positions are temporary, part-time (up
to 25 hrs/week) working approximately 16 weeks, from April 1st  through August 20th, at a rate of
$15.00 per hour

 

General Duties: The Summer Works Initiative is a leadership development and job- readiness initiative
designed to assist youth, between the ages of 14-19, explore career
opportunities, gain invaluable work experience, and develop workplace skills
needed to succeed in today’s workforce. 
Selected candidates will:

·        
Facilitate
job-readiness training workshops

·        
Monitor
youth performance at designated work-sites

·        
Maintain
records of youth work activities, timesheets, and report preparation

·        
Act
as an intermediary between youth, parents, and employers to resolve youth
related challenges

·        
Participate
in weekend activities

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:  The successful candidate must have the
ability to work with a diverse population; the ability to maintain focus and
control in a group setting; have e
xcellent written, presentation and verbal communication skills,
and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Access or
equivalent.  Personal vehicle available
for work related tasks.

 

Minimum Qualification:  Must possess a valid Virginia driver’s license.  Preferred candidate will have direct
experience working with youth, and/or counseling / training experience in a job
readiness or related environment. 

 

Salary Range: $15.00 per hour.

Hilliard House, a transitional housing program for women and children in Henrico County, is seeking a part time Child Care Staff Assistant to work on our Child Care Team. The Child Care Staff Assistant will be responsible for supervising children in programming, transporting
