Here are some of the tasks you need to complete during our second week.
Before class on Tuesday, please complete the following:
Buy our textbook on Amazon.com and push it to your iPad’s Kindle app. Then take a look at the assigned readings for this week in our book and on Diigo.
Sign up for the “cool tools and apps presentation” as well as the “blog post” assignment on Google Docs. You can find the links in our Facebook group.
During the week, you need to complete the following:
Pitch your ideas for the first news package in class on Tuesday. Get straight to the point: Why is your story idea of interest to the CBS 6 online news audience. You’ll have one minute to make your pitch. Make an updated pitch in class on Thursday based on the feedback you received.
Clean up your existing social media accounts. By Thursday, you need to have a professional online presence with personal content hidden behind privacy settings.
Start tweeting every day, beginning on Tuesday. I will provide some tips in class that day on what you can tweet about. You should continue this until the end of the semester.
Like the page Facebook + Journalists and read the steps under “Getting Started” in the left-hand menu. Click on “Wall” and scroll down to get a feel for the benefits of this page. Continue to monitor this page throughout the semester. Here is some more information on creating pages for journalists
Turn in your social media portfolio for a first assessment on Jan. 30. More details will be provided at the beginning of the week under Assignments.
Sign up for the “social media critique” on Google Docs. A link will be provided at the beginning of the week in our Facebook group.
