Here are some of the tasks you need to complete during our seventh week.
Finalize your first news packages based on the feedback you received by Wednesday, Oct. 2, 11 p.m. Complete the first full draft of your second news packages by Thursday, Oct. 3, 11 p.m. (extended deadline).
By Wednesday, Oct. 3, 11 p.m., also identify at least 15 reliable news sources (newspapers, TV stations, blogs) in your assigned areas for the news curation project. Post the name and the URL for each source in the file in our Facebook group. Also subscribe to the Virginia Public Access Project for daily news summaries.
I made some changes to our course schedule, please make sure you check it.
Class on Tuesday:
Class attendance is optional. You can use class time to finish reporting and producing your second news packages. Sam Isaacs and I will be in the classroom during class time and will edit stories and can help with your ongoing stories.
Class on Thursday:
We will visit WTVR-CBS 6 (3301 West Broad Street) during class time. Please be in the front lobby of the station at 9:50 a.m. and wait for me to arrive. Scott Wise will give us a tour of the station and we will discuss the news curation project with him (it is important that you finish the assignment above beforehand). Class will be over at 11 a.m., so you will have enough time to return to campus before your next class. Please arrange transportation with your classmates, if you don’t have a car yourself. Parking is available in the back of the station.
Social media portfolio 2 is due Oct. 12
