Thanks for a great start into our semester on Thursday! It was nice getting to know all of you at our first class meeting. I hope you are as excited about the semester as I am.

Welcome to our “MASC 496 – Mobile and Social Media Journalism” capstone class in the 2015 fall semester at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Richard T. Robertson School of Media and Culture. This class is also known as the “iPadJournos” project (you will receive an iPad reporting kit for the semester).
This site includes the syllabus, the class schedule, assignment descriptions as well as the reading list and other curricular materials.
We’ll all be working together in learning about, and carrying out, social media projects in journalism. We’ll meet from 9:30 to 11:15 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Room 2222 in the Temple Building.
Our class will have its first meeting on Thursday, August 27 (this is later than previously communicated). There will be no class on Thursday, Aug. 20, and Tuesday, Aug. 25. I have received an offer by the International Center for Journalists to train Indian journalists and journalism professors in social media reporting and will not return until Aug. 25. A last minute change in my flights changed the initial schedule for this trip. The Robertson School is of course supporting this opportunity.
