Welcome to the course website for MASC 496 – Mobile and Social Media Journalism in the fall semester 2014 at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Richard T. Robertson School of Media and Culture.
This site includes the syllabus, the class schedule, assignment descriptions as well as the reading list and other curricular materials.
We’ll all be working together in learning about, and carrying out, social media projects in journalism. We’ll meet from 9:30 to 11:15 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Room 4110 in the Academic Learning Commons, 1000 Floyd Ave..
At our first meeting on Thursday, Aug. 21, we will discuss all aspects of the course and you will receive iPads as learning and reporting tools for the duration of the semester.
There are only three minor things you need to do:
1) Join our Facebook group for the class: https://www.facebook.com/groups/ipadjournosfall2014/
2) Bring your Apple username and ID to class, so you can activate the iPad I will give you for the semester. This is the same login information as for your iTunes account. If you do not have an Apple account, you need to get one here (it’s free): https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/
3) Fill out a brief technology survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ipadjournos-fall2014
The class has a recommended, not a mandatory textbook. If you want to get it, you can do so after the first class. Just hold on for now.
We are looking forward to meeting all of you on Thursday.
See you then!
