Welcome to the course website for MASC 496 – Mobile and Social Media Journalism in the fall semester 2013 at Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Mass Communication.
This site includes the syllabus, the class schedule, assignment descriptions as well as the reading list and other curricular materials.
We’ll all be working together in learning about, and carrying out, social media projects in journalism. We’ll meet from 9:30 to 11:15 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Room 2211 in the Temple Building, 901 W. Main St.
At our first meeting on Thursday, Aug. 22, we will discuss all aspects of the course and you will receive iPads as learning and reporting tools for the duration of the semester.
There are only three minor things you need to do before coming to class on Thursday:
1) Join our Facebook group for the class: https://www.facebook.com/groups/ipadjournosfall2013/
2) Bring your Apple username and ID to class, so you can activate the iPad I will give you for the semester. This is the same login information as for your iTunes account. If you do not have an Apple account, you need to get one here (it’s free): https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/
3) Fill out a brief technology survey: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/9HW3HJ8
The class has a recommended, not a mandatory textbook. If you want to get it, you can do so after the first class. Just hold on for now.
I am looking forward to meeting all of you on Thursday.
See you then!
