The day Dr. Harry Bear was awarded the NSABP Distinguished Investigator Lifetime Achievement Award

Harry D. Bear, M.D., Ph.D., Walter Lawrence Jr. Distinguished Professor in Oncology and Chair, Division of Surgical Oncology, was awarded the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP) Distinguished Investigator Lifetime Achievement Award in a ceremony held in San Diego, California on May 2, 2009. Dr. Bear is a graduate of the VCU School of Medicine and has been a member of the Division of Surgical Oncology since completing his Fellowship in Surgical Oncology at VCU in 1984. He has been on the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors of the NSABP since 1991.

International trials led by Dr. Bear have resulted in major changes in the treatment of breast cancer over the past two decades and have dramatically increased the chance for breast conservation among women with breast cancer.
