A Little Extra

Our students often hear about the impact of doing more than is asked of you. Guest speakers and alumni often tell them that doing a little extra can help you stand out. Two CSL students did just that during winter break.

Jackson Clark and Racheed Davis worked as sports marketing interns for the University of Maryland’s home basketball game Sunday against Iowa. Maryland Senior Associate AD for External Operations Carrie Blankenship is an adjunct professor in the CSL’s Distance Learning Program and set up a tour of the Terps athletic facilities for our graduate students this Fall. She extended an invitation to our students to return anytime and work as an “intern for a day.” Jackson and Racheed took advantage of the offer.

“The experience at the University of Maryland was great,” said Clark. “We were able to work with their staff before the game to plan out the in-game promotions and then we were able to help carry out the normal duties of an intern during the game. The University’s new flag tradition was easily my favorite part of the trip.”

Davis added, “I am very grateful and appreciative to have had this opportunity. It was great to visit the University of Maryland and not only experience the amazing atmosphere of a basketball game, but also experience what it’s like to work with one of the best athletic marketing departments in the nation.”
