Google Directory Update – Friday, Jan 12, 2018

On Friday, Jan 12, 2018, Collaboration Services will update the Google Directory to remove the middle initial in the VCU Google domain for faculty/staff. Google does not have a middle initial field, so we have been combining the first name and middle initial in the first name field. You may have noticed that a typeahead in Gmail requires knowing the middle initial of the contact in order to get the correct name in the typeahead. With some recent issues with duplicate names, we have determined it best to remove this middle initial.

If this is an issue for anyone, please contact the ITSC at (804) 828-2227 or , or Dr. Gee at
