VCU’s Homecoming is very different from the Homecoming celebration you may have experienced in high school. As a freshman at VCU, I remember hearing about Homecoming and assuming there would be a big fancy dance and game. Like high school, there is a game but it’s not football — it’s basketball!
Also, no need for an extravagant dress or tux rental because a dance is just about impossible to pull off with over 30,000 students! Instead of a night or two of celebrating your school pride and spirit, at VCU, Homecoming is an entire week of activities, freebies, food and excitement!
Each year our Homecoming Committee plans a week full of activities for students to enjoy, leading up to the big Homecoming concert and basketball game. This is the week students look forward to all year and VCU makes sure to make it unforgettable! This year’s theme, “A Moment For Life: A Black & Gold Story,” is inspired by our men’s basketball team’s historic run to the Final Four and other special moments we experience as college students at VCU.
Check out VCU Homecoming’s Facebook page for the inside scoop and pictures on the week’s activities. You can also find this year’s complete Homecoming schedule on VCU’s Homecoming website.
Make sure you to read my next blog recapping the week’s events including the big Homecoming concert!

The New year continues to kick off with another exciting event – VCU’s Spring Open House! Open House is designed for prospective students and their families to come and visit our diverse campus and see all of the academic programs and student services VCU has to offer. We had an amazing turnout in the fall and are looking forward to another great event!
The first Open House of 2012 is being held on Saturday, February 4, 2012. Prospective students and their families can look forward to receiving an in-depth glimpse of all that VCU has to offer, including: information about admissions and financial aid, opportunities to speak with staff and faculty members from varying academic programs, a chance to meet student organizations and gather information about student life on campus, and a tour of VCU’s residence halls.
Open House check-in will begin in the Siegel Center lobby from 7:30-8:45am and will be followed by an official welcome to VCU. After that, you are free to attend any of the academic overviews to learn more about the specific programs offered at VCU. There will also be a number of events taking place, including tours of campus and the residence halls, and special sessions on topics like The Honors College, study abroad and much more.
For more specific information about VCU’s Open House, please visit the following website: www.ugrad.vcu.edu/openhouse.
You can also RSVP online to help make check-in a breeze! We look forward to seeing you there!

If you didn’t know, our recommended deadline for freshmen applying for fall 2012 is Sunday, January 15, 2012. In other words, our recommended deadline for fall 2012 is TODAY!
These days it seems most students calling our office are concerned about their application being complete before the deadline. While we completely understand that you want to be certain that you’ve done your part and everything is a-OK, here are two things you should consider before you call:
1. You can check your application status online, at your own convenience! Find directions on how to do so below.
2. If you check your status and it seems that something is missing, do not (repeat, do NOT) panic! We have received thousands of pieces of mail and it takes time (up to 4-6 weeks) to process all of it and match it to the correct application. We work hard to make sure that every single piece of information that has been sent about you ends up with your application. That being said, it takes a little bit of time. Please be patient!
As always, if you have questions or concerns, you are more than welcome to give us a call or shoot us an email. We can be reached by phone at (804) 828-1222 or (800) 841-3638 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Keep in mind that we will be closed over the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend, and will reopen on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 8:00 AM.
I hope this information is helpful and relieves some stress for all of you! Happy Deadline Day!
HOW TO CHECK YOUR STATUS
Students who applied electronically are able to check their status online in three easy steps:
1. Go to the following Web site: https://ssb.vcu.edu/proddad/twbkwbis.P_GenMenu?name=homepage.
2. Choose the “Apply for Admission” link and log in using the same Login ID and PIN you created to apply.
3. Check the status of your application materials (we do not provide admissions decisions online).
Students who applied using a paper application should contact our office directly and ask to with their application processor to check their application status.
