Education Abroad is happy to assist any student who is applying to the Boren this fall with feedback on their essays and application. We also strongly encourage applicants to make an appointment at the National Scholarship Office at VCU to start the application process early on.

2012-2013 Boren Awards Applications Now Available!

The applications for the 2012-2013 David L. Boren Scholarships and Fellowships are now available!
Boren Awards provide unique funding opportunities for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students to study in Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East, where they can add important international and language components to their educations.
Boren Scholarships provide undergraduate students up to $20,000 for an academic year’s study abroad. Boren Fellowships provide graduate students up to $30,000 for language study and international research.
The application deadline for the Boren Fellowship is January 31 and the deadline for the Boren Scholarship is February 9.

Scholarship Opportunity: Annete Kade Scholarships

ISEP is now accepting nominations from U.S. member institutions for student scholarships funded through The New York Community Trust-Annette Kade Fund.
Annette Kade $2,000 Scholarships – semester and full year students (2 available for 2011-12)
Annette Kade $1,000 Scholarships – semester and full year students (6 available for 2011-12)
Grants will be awarded to U.S. ISEP second semester participants in order to encourage students with a genuine interest in learning German or French abroad. The target audience for these scholarships is students wishing to pursue study at one of the German or French language programs within the ISEP membership. The award criteria for the scholarships include academic background, desire to improve language ability, and genuine financial need.
Requirements
Must be a U.S. ISEP nominee for France, Germany, Austria or Switzerland
Applicants should also demonstrate financial need.
ISEP Scholarship Application Form (PDF) signed and endorsed by home ISEP coordinator
Mandatory completion of a post-exchange student evaluation form.
All applicants must submit a response to two essay questions- the first based on financial need and the second relating to the culture/language of the host country.
Timeline
All nominations should be submitted to ISEP by October 3, 2011. Scholarship applicants will be notified in late October of the status of their application.

Study Abroad Fall Fair 2011

The Global Education Office hosts a fair each September to spread the word about the numerous study abroad opportunities available through VCU. Students who visit the fair will have the chance to meet with faculty who lead study abroad programs, students who have studied abroad, Education Abroad staff, as well as representatives from academic institutions, study abroad program providers and travel agencies.
Students will also have the opportunity to meet with representatives from various offices at VCU that assist with the study abroad process, including the national scholarship office, financial aid, student health services, the School of World Studies, and more. Students from all disciplines are invited to come learn about study abroad options, funding and resources!

NCDE Offers $50 for Disability Stories on International Exchange Experiences

If you are a person with a disability and have either studied, worked or
volunteered on exchange between the US and another country, the National
Clearinghouse on Disability and Exchange (NCDE)
would like to hear from you!
How to Participate:
. Write a personal essay
. Share your blog
. Answer our Featured Person questionnaire
If NCDE selects your submission for the NCDE website and/or other publications,
they will send a one-time $50 stipend to your U.S. address!
Requirements:
Submissions must come from people with disabilities residing in the United
States, which includes people from other countries currently having an
international exchange experience in the United States.
Submissions are due by Thursday, September 1, 2011.
